The OTTRED Senior Hiring Index

48.3%

That is the share of every readable media board carrying a senior opening this morning. Across eight Mondays it has read 43.4, 60.0, 41.2, 48.6, 47.1, 48.6, 48.4 and 48.3. Roughly half this industry is hiring a leader at any given moment, and that has barely moved since August. It is the one number in here we would stake anything on, and from this week we will publish it every week.

The OTTRED Senior Hiring Index, Monday 12 October 2026

The Week at a Glance

154 senior roles. 28 companies hiring above director level.

100 per cent of the streamer boards we read carry a senior opening. 21.2 per cent of the vendor boards do. That is the widest the two sides of this industry have been in the eight weeks we have been measuring.

Commercial hiring has almost caught engineering. Seven seats between them, down from fifty three a fortnight ago.

68 roles from last Monday are still advertised this Monday, and the most stubborn ones cluster around one skill set. More on that below, because it is the most useful thing in here.

Where they are: North America 105, APAC 20, Europe 15, UK 12, Middle East 1, Latin America 1, Africa 0.

The Charts

154 senior roles, read five ways

Where the seats opened, who is actually hiring at the top, what the companies are buying, the roles that will not close, and the gap between the two sides of the industry.

Where the senior jobs are, by region

North America holds 68 per cent of every senior seat we can see. APAC held its share of the list while everything else shrank.

Who is actually hiring, by industry segment

Every streamer board we read is hiring at senior level. Nine out of nine. On the vendor side it is seven boards out of thirty three.

What they are buying, senior roles by function

Commercial has closed the gap on engineering to seven seats. A fortnight ago it was fifty three. Revenue hiring is catching build hiring up.

The roles that will not close, senior seats still advertised two Mondays running

68 of last week's senior roles are still open. Deltatre carries eleven. A role that will not close is usually a brief the market cannot answer.

The gap between the two sides, share of boards carrying a senior opening by segment

Streamers hit 100 per cent this week. Vendors fell to 21.2, a series low. Six weeks ago that gap was 46 points. Today it is 79.

What We Think Is Actually Happening

Four things worth reading slowly

1

The streamers are wide open.

Every single streamer board we could read is hiring at senior level. Nine out of nine. Netflix 16, Paramount 16, Crunchyroll 13, Tubi 10. Last week that figure was 90 per cent, the week before 76.9. It has risen five editions running, which is the longest clean run of anything we track. What that means for you: if you have been waiting for the right moment to move across into a streamer, this is the warmest the door has been since we started counting.

2

The vendor side is thin, and it is honest thinning.

Seven vendor boards out of thirty three are hiring at senior level, 21.2 per cent, the lowest reading in the series. Twenty six vendor boards served us their complete list this morning with nothing above director on it: Irdeto, Nagra, Verimatrix, MediaKind, Vizrt, Telestream, Qwest, Kaltura, Accedo, Qwilt, Cleeng, JWX, Backlight, Titan OS, MainStreaming, M2A Media, Magycal, Conviva, Quickplay, Firstlight Media, Axinom, castLabs, Mux, OTTera, Ateme and Comcast Technology Solutions. Those are real zeroes. We read the whole board and there was nothing there. Last Monday we said the vendor share had risen three editions running and told you to hold that loosely. Holding it loosely was right. What that means for you: on the vendor side, aim at the seven that are moving rather than at the category. Deltatre is carrying thirteen senior seats on its own, and NPAW has two sales director roles open for a second week after six empty editions. Those are the doors that are actually ajar.

3

Rights and content protection is the brief this market cannot answer.

This is new and it is the finding we would most want you to take away. From this week we track which roles are still advertised a week later, matched on requisition ID rather than job title. Sixty eight of last Monday's roles are still sitting there. Look at the most senior of them and it is the same job in three different buildings. Tubi wants a Vice President and Associate General Counsel for content acquisitions. Crunchyroll wants a Vice President of content protection and anti piracy. Dolby wants a Vice President of intellectual property protection. All three were advertised last Monday. All three are still advertised today. What that means for you: if rights, content protection or anti piracy is your background, you are scarcer than you think you are. Three of the four most stubborn senior seats in the open market are yours, and a role that will not close is a role where the company has run out of options. Ask for more than you were going to ask for.

4

Commercial is quietly catching up.

Product and engineering 51 seats, commercial 44. A fortnight ago that gap was fifty three. Commercial is the only major function that has risen two weeks running, and it is the function leading what little vendor hiring there is. The honest caveat, because we would rather give you it than have you act on half a number: part of the engineering fall is our own rule, not the market. We only count a specialist engineering seat if it is a Principal Engineer, Lead Architect, Principal Architect, Staff Architect, Distinguished Engineer or Principal Consultant. One role in this whole sweep qualified. Read the direction, not the size of the gap.

Five Things Worth Doing This Week

If you only act on five things

1

If you are in rights, content protection or IP, go and look at the three VP seats above today. They have been open a fortnight. That is leverage and it does not last.

2

If you are vendor side and feeling stuck, stop reading the category and start reading the seven companies that are moving. Deltatre, Dolby, NPAW, Bitmovin, EVS, 3 Screen Solutions and Nielsen with Gracenote are the ones with something open.

3

If you are in the Gulf, stop refreshing careers pages. Nine of the ten Gulf and Africa employers in our universe either have no public board or are shut to machines. Those jobs really do not get posted. They move through people, so spend the hour there instead.

4

Forty two of the roles below link to a company board rather than to the role itself, because those boards do not give a posting its own address. The role is on the page. Use the company name and the title to find it, it takes ten seconds.

5

Set yourself a two week rule. A role that is still advertised a fortnight after you first saw it is not a role you are late for. It is a role the company is struggling with, and that changes how you write the first line of your email.

Still Looking

Senior seats still advertised two Mondays running

If one of these is your brief, you are in a stronger position than the posting makes it look.

Nine more at Samba TV look like the same roles a week on, but their board does not show us a requisition ID, so we are matching on title alone there and we would rather tell you that than count them.

Where This Sits in the Eight Week Picture

The steadiness is the real headline

80, 136, 175, 213, 255, 261, 212, 154. That is every edition since 24 August.

The climb to 261 was real and so is the fall, but a good part of both is how much of the market we could see on the day. Boards read: 76, 50, 68, 70, 70, 72, 64, 58. Boards shut to us: 6, 50, 26, 25, 28, 25, 32, 37.

And the Index, which is the share of readable boards carrying something senior: 43.4, 60.0, 41.2, 48.6, 47.1, 48.6, 48.4, 48.3.

That steadiness is the real headline. The totals move with how much of the market we can see on the day. The underlying rate does not.

A Note on What This Is

These are not RedHolt roles.

Every role in this list was read off a public job board this morning. We publish them because they are useful to you, not because we have any interest in them. Apply directly to the company. Nothing here needs to route through us and nothing comes back to us if it does not.

We do it because the alternative is you losing a Sunday evening to careers pages that are drawn by a browser and tell you nothing. And we do it because of what we are building, which we will say once and quietly: the most distinguished headhunting firm in the world for senior media roles, on both sides of this industry, the consumer businesses and the vendors who supply them. That is a standard we hold ourselves to, not an offer.

Every week we will tell you which doors opened and which stayed shut, because a list you can trust is worth more than a longer one.

From Chris to the whole OTTRED community, good luck. Here for you if you need my advice or a career blueprint.
